MUSEUM LINKS
Bellow are five different links to museum websites with tools that could be useful in all subject areas of the elementary classroom.
I thought this website was interesting and useful because it had a theme of jumping. Throughout the website there were pictures of people jumping in front of artwork in different museums from all over. On the home page it showed a jumping project that young kids could do. I think this would be useful for a teacher because its a very hands on and big project to do. The kids laid down and mimicked a jumping position, were traced, then colored. This allows kids to make something that is realistic and special to them and adds variety to their art projects because of how large it is.
This particular website would be useful in an art classroom and other subject areas because it had a lesson plan that is brainstorming to connect thinking skills with abstract art- So this is combining two different subjects in school. The lesson plan says, that of the many skills demanded from todays professions, creative thinking is the most frequently mentioned; and brainstorming is key to the development of creative thinking. Abstract art challenges viewers to think in new ways and can provide a rich starting point for creative brainstorming.
This website provides a very wide range of learning tools that covers Modernism in every area. It has different links that lead to information and learning tools and assignments about pop-art, surrealism, cubism, conceptual art, minimalism, dada, photography, and landscaping. I believe that art plays a huge part in our history especially pop-culture during the 1950s and 60s. This website could be helpful with other subjects such as a history class to tie in art to what they are teaching. This could make your lessons more interesting, because young kids are more interested in learning when it something hands on or there are colorful pictures and art work to look at while you are lecturing.
This website is very organized and detailed on how to set up a tour and what to expect if going on a tour to their museum. Also on the website, there is a section for schools and educators that offers teacher resources and arts curriculum online. For example, an activity that I found interesting was one where the students were asked to look at a piece of art work, discuss it, and then draw on a piece of paper with their pencil what they think that the other side of the piece would look like. After doing this they were to discuss each others drawings then shown the next slide which was the actual picture of the other side of the object. This is a way to get students to create good observation skills and creative thinking as well. Those two skills can be used in a lot of different subject areas besides art.
This website is very useful because on the homepage, the first thing you see is links to all types of different subjects. The first being Arts and Designs of course but followed by science and technology, history and culture, and language arts. This website has a wide variety of lesson plans and is a good example of how art can be related to each different subject.
